Self Care
- The Whole U: Yoga, meditation, volunteering, dance, mindfulness
- Seattle Crosscut: major resource for things going on in Seattle
- Employee Mental Health Support: as an intern you will be a UW employee category Professional Staff
- Sleep! I found surviving internship meant having an early bedtime that I stuck close to, even on the weekends, and a solid bedtime routine.
- Enjoy the beautiful views, nature, etc as much as possible, even if its a mindful minute (skybridge, walking by the lake at UWMC) on your lunch break
- Come up with a fun routine for your research time. I love knowing that I always end my week at my favorite coffee shop with an americano (followed by a beer when happy hour starts at 3), this routine gives me something to look forward to all week.
- Exercise
- Take time to meet and hang out with people
- Get a pet
- Reserve a regular time to video chat with family/friends back home
- Go to happy hour
- Walk to work
- Massage (use groupon)
- Meditation classes
- Hang out with the other residents often. No one else will understand what you are going through like they will.
- Hiking
- Walking around Green Lake with a coffee/tea
- Keep doing whatever you found helpful before residency for self-care. I’ve found maintaining a regular workout schedule, and sticking to it as much as possible helpful.
