General Child Psychology
Kara Fox, MA
E-mail: foxkara@uw.edu
Graduate Program: University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Clinical/Research Interests: My research examines adolescents’ social media experiences, development, and mental health, considering how person-specific factors (e.g., gender, neurodevelopment, affective style) influence individual adolescents’ unique interactions with and responses to social media content. I aim to translate this information into resources and interventions that support youth and families to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Clinically, I enjoy working with adolescents, emerging adults, and families experiencing emotional dysregulation and high-risk behaviors in dialectical behavioral therapy. I integrate cognitive-behavioral, acceptance, and trauma-informed principles to address co-occurring concerns related to mood, anxiety, trauma, identity/self-image, and neurodivergence (ADHD, autism).
Clara Johnson, MS
E-mail: cjohnso9@uw.edu
Graduate Program: University of Washington
Clinical/Research Interests: Clara’s Her research centers on expanding access to evidence-based mental health care in under-resourced settings through implementation science. For her dissertation, Clara partnered with lay providers in Kenya to adapt trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy to address social determinants of mental health (e.g., food insecurity, experience of discrimination). Clinically, Clara integrates ecological and developmental frameworks to tailor evidence-based treatments to the unique needs of children and families. Clara is especially committed to working with youth and families from marginalized communities.
Lucy Lurie, MA
E-mail: luriel@uw.edu
Graduate Program: University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Clinical/Research Interests: My research interests focus on early childhood adversity and neurodevelopmental pathways contributing to psychopathology risk. Clinically, I am interested in using evidence-based intervention and assessment approaches to serve children and families with broad presenting concerns stemming from adversity exposure. Given my research and clinical focus on working with families who have diverse experiences of adversity and exposure to structural inequality, I integrate a contextual framework that considers transactions between children, their families, and their environments in understanding how their symptoms manifest and how to tailor treatment to their specific context.
